ONITSHA —THE governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the November 16, 2013, gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, has said he headed to the Court of Appeal in Enugu to ask for disbandment of the tribunal currently handling the matter in Awaka because of its bias.
Speaking to newsmen in his home town, Alor, in Idemili South Local Government Area , Ngige noted that if the tribunal were to continue sitting over the matter, it might trample on justice with a negative verdict.
Giving some instances of the tribunal rulings so far, Ngige wondered why it rejected some paragraphs of his own petition and the video clips of Africa Independent Television, AIT and Channels TV crews brought before it as an evidence of irregularities that allegedly marred the election.
The Appeal Court panel sitting in Enugu, headed by Abdukadir Jega, had last Thursday, after hearing from counsel to both parties, reserved ruling till a convenient date which would be communicated to the parties in due course.
In his submissions at the Appeal Court, counsels to APC and Ngige, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and Emeka Ngige (SAN), complained that the partiality of the Ishaq Bello-led three-man tribunal currently handling his petition in Awka was so glaring that it rejected many vital parts of his petition and that of his witnesses.
Akeredolu, who expressed concern that the tribunal deliberately struck out all the paragraphs relevant to his case, including video clips of AIT and Channels crews that monitored the election on November 16, prayed the Appeal Court to disband the tribunal and reconstitute it because of glaring act of partiality.
